Встарь, во время оно,
Get up during it,
В сказочном краю
In a fairy -tale edge
Пробирался конный
The horse made his way
Степью по репью.
Steppe on repu.


Он спешил на сечу,
He was in a hurry to Sich
А в степной пыли
And in steppe dust
Темный лес навстречу
Dark forest to meet
Вырастал вдали.
Grown in the distance.


Ныло ретивое,
It ached zealous
На сердце скребло:
Through the heart:
Бойся водопоя,
Fear the water supply,
Подтяни седло.
Tighten the saddle.


Не послушал конный
I did not listen to the equestrian
И во весь опор
And at full speed
Залетел с разгону
He flew with acceleration
На лесной бугор.
On the forest hillock.


Повернул с кургана,
He turned from the mound,
Въехал в суходол,
I drove into Sukhodol,
Миновал поляну,
Passed the clearing,
Гору перешел.
Mountain crossed.


И забрел в ложбину,
And wandered into the hollow,
И лесной тропой
And a forest path
Вышел на звериный
I went out to the animal
След и водопой.
Trace and watering.


И глухой к призыву
And a deaf to a call
И не вняв чутью,
And without healing the instinct,
Свел коня с обрыва
Brought the horse from the cliff
Попоить к ручью.
Drive to the stream.


У ручья пещера.
At the stream of the cave.
Пред пещерой брод.
Before the cave, ford.
Как бы пламя серы
Like a flame of sulfur
Озаряло вход.
The entrance lit up.


И в дыму багровом,
And in the smoke of crimson,
Застилавшем взор,
Covered the gaze,
Отдаленным зовом
Distant call
Огласился бор.
Bor was announced.


И тогда оврагом,
And then a ravine,
Вздрогнув, напрямик
Having shuddered, straight
Тронул конный шагом
He touched the horse pace
На призывный крик.
On a call scream.


И увидел конный,
And I saw the equestrian,
И приник к копью,
And cling to the spear
Голову дракона,
Dragon's head,
Хвост и чешую.
Tail and scales.


Пламенем из зева
Flame from the pharynx
Рассевал он свет,
He dawned on the light
В три кольца вкруг девы
Three rings in the Virgin
Обмотав хребет.
Having wrapped a ridge.


Туловище змея,
The torso snake
Как концом бича,
Like the end of the scourge
Поводило шеей
He led her neck
У ее плеча.
At her shoulder.


Той страны обычай
The country is custom
Пленницу-красу
Captive-beauty
Отдавал в добычу
I gave it to prey
Чудищу в лесу.
Conducting in the forest.


Края населенье
The edges of the population
Хижины свои
Their huts
Выкупало пеней
Busy penalties
Этой от змеи.
This from the snake.


Змей обвил ей руку
The snake wrapped her hand over her
И оплел гортань,
And the larynx braided,
Получив на муку
Having received flour
В жертву эту дань.
This tribute to the sacrifice.


Посмотрел с мольбою
He looked with a plea
Bсадник в высь небес
Bosadnik in heaven
И копье для боя
And a spear for a fight
Взял наперевес.
I took at the ready.


Сомкнутые веки.
Closed eyelids.
Bыси. Облака.
Bysi. Clouds.
Воды. Броды. Реки.
Water. Brody. Rivers.
Годы и века.
Years and centuries.


Конный в шлеме сбитом,
Horse in a helmet knocked down,
Сшибленный в бою.
Cuttled in battle.
Верный конь, копытом
Faithful horse, hoof
Топчущий змею.
The stomping snake.


Конь и труп дракона
The horse and corpse of the dragon
Рядом на песке.
Near the sand.
В обмороке конный,
In a cavalry fainting,
Дева в столбняке.
Virgin in tetanus.


Светел свод полдневный,
The light of the vault is half a day,
Синева нежна.
Sineva is tender.
Кто она? Царевна?
Who is she? Princess?
Дочь земли? Княжна?
The daughter of the Earth? Princess?


То, в избытке счастья,
Then, in an abundance of happiness,
Слезы в три ручья.
Tears in three streams.
То душа во власти
Then a soul in power
Сна и забытья.
Sleep and oblivion.


То возврат здоровья,
Then return of health,
То недвижность жил
Then immovable lived
От потери крови
From blood loss
И упадка сил.
And the loss of strength.


Но сердца их бьются.
But their hearts beat.
То она, то он
Then she, then he
Силятся очнуться
They are trying to wake up
И впадают в сон.
And they fall into a dream.
