OM (Sanskr. ॐ or AUM) - in the Hindu and Vedic tradition - a sacred sound, the original mantra. It is often interpreted as a symbol of the divine trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the quintessence of the word. It is believed that the sound of OM (AUM) was the first manifestation of the Brahman, which was still not attached to the beginning of the perceived universe that came from vibration caused by this sound.

The syllable OM is a makha bija mantra. The word Mach means "great", bija - "seed, source, reason." Maha-bija means that the syllable is the source of all mantras. In the Vedic tradition, it is believed that all the Vedas, the entire universe and all creatures came from the syllable OM.

OM is the main sound from which all other sounds came and their designations - letters. If you pronounce OM correctly, then the real form of a thin and inaudible state of sound will appear. OM is a manifestation of the primary cosmic vibration.

Three sounds are enclosed in OM: a-u-m. Each of these letters has many meanings. With properly pronouncing OM, the sound arises from the navel with a deep and harmonious vibration and gradually rises to the inter -cloth, where it sounds like a nasal sound M.

Om manifests itself in the murmur of a stream, in the rustle of leaves, the rhus of the tiger, the ringing of bells, the rumble of drums, the music of spheres, the singing of birds, in the conversation of people and in the laughter of children.

A-u-M means time, space and cause; past, present and future; birth, development and death; beginning, middle and end; spirit, mind and matter; Three states of consciousness: wakefulness, dream with dreams and sleep without dreams. The fourth state of consciousness, Turia, the state of unity, is outside these three and is expressed by silence (elusive vibration following the sound of m).

In the Vedas, the sound "OM" is the sound of the sun and light. It symbolizes upward movement, the approach of the soul to the mountain spheres.

The sacred significance of the mantra "OM" in Hinduism is difficult to overestimate. Almost all the sacred texts of the Hindu and Vedic tradition began and ended with this sound.

In Krishnaism, the components of the sound of OM also indicate: a - to Krishna, U - on his energy, m - to all living things.
