У брахмана в семье родился сын,

Однажды вечером он шел домой

И женщину распутную увидел

И вспыхнул в сердце роковой огонь,

Не в силах брахман осквернение видеть..

Лишило разума желание его,
Deprived his mind of him,
Забыл свой долг священный брахман.

В обличье распутницы привел он в дом свой тьму,

Изгнал благочестивую красивую жену..

И совесть не терзала злое сердце,

Греху он предавался день за днем..

Родился сын у падшего Аджамилы:

И в этом теле жизнь найдет конец!

Подкралась смерть к несчастному Аджамиле,

Уродливою пастью извергая смех!

От ужаса похолодело сердце

И брахман знал, что это все - не сон!

Он предал долг свой, предал он и Бога

И наказанье злое понесет!

Схватив его когтями слуги Ямы
Grabbing him with the claws of the servant of the pit
Тащить его взялись, терзая плоть!

И нет надежды на спасенье..

Бессилен здесь, он одинок!

Собрав последний дух, последний вдох...

Что вздулись вены, лопнули глаза...

Аджамила закричал, срывая глас, забыв себя:

Не Бога, сына звал...

И в этот миг разверзлись небеса,

В смятеньи Ямадуты отступили,
The Yamaduts retreated in confusion,
Сияющие слуги Господа на зов:
The shining servants of the Lord at the call:
Нараяна! Нараяна!! Нараяна!!!
Narayana! Narayana !! Narayana !!!
Сошли и защитили... нечестивого глупца.
They went away and defended ... a wicked fool.


Словно стрелой пронзило осознанье
As if an awareness pierced an arrow
Греховный ум сошедшего с пути...
The sinful mind of a leaving the path ...
Он рухнул на колени в покаяньи
He collapsed to the repentance
И он рыдал, узрев свои грехи..
And he sobbed, having seen his sins ..


Святое Имя Бога побеждает
The holy name of God wins
И даже самый падший обретает
And even the most fallen acquires
Спасение от звуков Имени Его,
Salvation from the sounds of his name,
Пусть даже звал он сына своего...
