1 And it came to pass, when I had made an end of speaking these words, behold, the angel which was sent unto me the former nights was sent unto me, 2 And he said unto me, Arise, Ezra, and hear the words which I am come to speak unto thee. 3 And I said, Speak, my lord. And he said unto me, The sea is set in a broad place, that it may be deep and without measure: 4 But the entrance thereof is in a narrow place, so that it is like the rivers. 5 Whosoever would desire to enter into the sea, and to see it, or to rule over it, unless he go through the narrow place, how shall he reach the breadth? 6 Or another similitude: A city is built, and set upon a plain, and is filled with all good things: 7 But the entrance thereof is narrow, and set upon a steep place, so that on the right hand is fire, and on the left deep water. 8 Between them, that is, between the fire and the water, there is but one path, in which there is room for no more than the step of a man. 9 If this city were given to a man for an inheritance, how would he receive his inheritance if he never passed through the danger that lay in the way? 10 I said, Yes, Lord. And he said to me, So is Israel's portion. 11 For their sakes I made the world; but when Adam transgressed my statutes, it was determined that it should be done. 12 So the entrances of this world became strait, and painful, and wearisome; also narrow, wicked, full of troubles and requiring much labor. 13 But the entrances of the world to come are spacious, and safe, and yielding the fruit of immortality. 14 Therefore, unless those who are entering in, who live, enter into this strait and distressing place, they cannot receive what is laid up for them. 15 Why are you troubled, seeing that you are corruptible? And why are you troubled, seeing that you are mortal? 16 Why have you not received into your heart the things to come, but have embraced the things that are present? 17 Then I answered and said, “Sovereign Lord, behold, you have ordained by your law that the righteous should inherit these things, but the wicked should perish. 18 The righteous will suffer hardship, hoping for more space; but those who have lived wickedly, though they have suffered hardship, will not see more space. 19 And he said to me, “There is no judge higher than God, and no one understands more than the Most High.” 20 Many perish in this life because they neglect the law of God set before them. 21 For God strictly charged those who were coming, when they came, what they should do and live, and what they should keep and not be punished. 22 But they did not obey him, but rebelled, and confirmed in themselves a vain thought. 23 They were carried away by the deceits of sin, they said of the Most High that He does not exist, they knew not His ways, 24 They despised His law, rejected His promises, had no faith in His ordinances, they did not do His works. 25 Therefore, Ezra, to the empty is empty, but to the full is full. 26 Behold, the time comes when the signs will come which I told you; and the bride will appear, and appearing she will be seen, which is now hidden by the earth. 27 And everyone who is delivered from the evils that are enumerated before will see My wonders for himself. 28 For My Son Jesus will be revealed with those who are with Him, and those who remain will enjoy themselves four hundred years. 29 And after these years My Son Christ will die, and all men who have breath. 30 And the world will return to the old silence for seven days, as it was at first, until no one will be left. 31 And after the seven days the world will arise that slept, and die that was corrupted. 32 And the earth shall give up those who sleep in it, and the dust of those who dwell silently in it, and the treasures shall deliver up the souls committed to their charge. 33 Then shall the Most High appear upon the throne of judgment, and the troubles shall pass away, and longsuffering shall have an end. 34 There shall be one judgment, truth shall be established, faith shall be strengthened. 35 Then shall the work follow, the recompense shall be revealed, righteousness shall arise, unrighteousness shall cease to reign. 36 I said, Abraham first prayed for Sodom; Moses for the fathers who sinned in the wilderness; 37 Jesus after him for Israel in the days of Achan; 38 Samuel and David for those who were perishing; Solomon for those who came to the dedication; 39 Elijah for those who received the rain, and for the dead, that he might live; 40 Hezekiah for the people in the days of Sennacherib; and many for many. 41 If then, when corruption increased and iniquity abounded, the righteous prayed for the unrighteous, why should it not be so also now? 42 He answered me and said, “This present age is not the end; in it there is often no glory; therefore they prayed for the weak. 43 But the day of judgment is the end of this time and the beginning of the time of immortality to come; when corruption will pass away, 44 intemperance will cease, unbelief will be cut off, and righteousness will increase, and truth will shine forth. 45 Then no one will be able to save him who is lost, nor destroy him who has overcome.” 46 I answered and said, “This is my first and last word: It would have been better not to have given the land to Adam, or, when it was given, to have held him back from sinning. 47 What profit does it profit men to live in sorrow in this present age, and to look for punishment after death? 48 O Adam, what have you done? When you sinned, not only did you fall, but we also, who are descended from you. 49 What profit is it to us, if we were promised immortality, but we did mortal deeds? 50 An eternal hope was promised to us, but we, worthless, became vain. 51 Abiding places of health and rest were prepared for us, but we lived wickedly. 52 The glory of the Most High was prepared to cover those who lived meekly, but we walked in evil ways.53 Paradise will be shown, the fruit of which remains incorruptible and in which there is peace and a physician
