The reason for their writing was the desire to expand the repertoire of the traditional home musical for Vienna. In the house of Father Schubert, music lovers who played string quartets and shifts of small symphonies regularly gathered. Young Schubert himself performed the Alta party. The number of participants gradually increased, so from the House of the Schuberts it was necessary to move into a more spacious dwelling of one of the musicians of the opera Theater, where the larger symphonies - Haydna, Mozart, even the first two symphones of Beethoven played. For this, the orchestra of amateurs wrote the 19-year-old Schubert fourth and fifth symphonies, but the orchestrants found the fourth music too complicated, and the composer never heard it in concert performance. The premiere of the fourth symphony took place more than twenty years after the death of Schubert, on November 19, 1849 in a concert of the Leipzig Musical Society of Eerterpa.
