Проект зародился в начале 1980-х[1]. Koto стала первой итальянской synth-группой, основанной Анфрандо Майолой (англ. Anfrando Maiola) и Стефано Кундари (англ. The project originated in the early 1980s [1]. Koto became the first Italian Synth-group founded by Anfrendo Mayiola (English. Anfrando Maiola) and Stefano Cundari (English Stefano Cundari) and recorded at Memory Records Studio (Italy). Together they published several such tracks like Visitors, Japanese War Game, Dragon's Legend, Chinese Revenge and Jabdah.

In 1989, the German recording label Zyx Records bought the rights to the entire MEMORY RECORDS directory, including the rights to Koto music and the name. [1] They also requested (known from the LaserDance project) to Michael Van der Kuy (English. Michiel Van Der Kuy) so that he re-recorded and mixed some of the old Koto tracks. The result of this process was the album of Masterpieces, which contains the re-mixed versions of Majas tracks along with three new songs, fully compiled by Michelem Van der Kai. In 1990, anfrance Mayol returned to Champion's Cue's song, but the single did not have gained great popularity. Michel Van der Kai later made a record of four Koto albums. All of them have become a classic today, known to every fan of SpaceSynth music.

As already mentioned above, the legal rights to the name Koto were acquired by Zyx Records, which was not interested in another album of the group in the old SpaceSynth-style [1]. Recently, the Day of Mayol returned the rights to Koto name, but the music he writes is now far from SpaceSynth-genre, but rather located between Dance and Techno styles. From the latest Majala works should be noted the tracks of Koto Is Still Alive (2001) and Blow The Whistle (2003).
