Among the countless influx of fresh releases, (I think no one will argue that 2016 turned out to be prolific), the elderly from San Francisco, who had not really pleased the people for almost ten years. I will be honest when messages from the group members began to appear, they say, we write a new album - I reacted to this skeptical. Yes, and "Lords of Summer", which came out a couple of years ago, impressed me from the word "nothing." Well, here a couple of months ago, Metallica rolls out "Hardwird" and says that the album has already been written. I must admit that "Hardwird" at least left a good impression. But first things first.

For starters, we will make a brief excursion into the history of the group, which everyone already knows. From 1983 to 1988, the group chopped a wonderful and vigorous such trash. Albums from this period became cult, and the group thanks to them earned eternal peace in the annals of metal history. In 1991, a crucial black album rolled out, which determined the direction of the group towards a more commercial sound. "Load", "Reload", "Garage Inc." - All of them were excellent, albeit not with metal albums. After that there was an unsuccessful attempt in the form of a fairly raw “ST. anger” and a “Death Magnetic” from a finger (although there was still a couple of suitable tracks there).

The first thing that rushes is an excellent sound. After the pots on "ST. Anger" and hellish clicks on "Magnetics", everything is fine here. No dirt, extra noise or some other heresy, which should not be in the mix, everything is at a decent level.

Now about technology. Everything is designed at the middle level between the black album and earlier works. Not so technical as on some puppeteer, but does not smell with triviality. Lars is increasingly using a double bass, Rob’s bass is a great bone for the entire rhythm section. The only thing that catches the eye is the vocals of Hatfield. The feeling that he was clearly not pulling some notes and in the final version they either overestimated the Autolyun, or James sung for a very long time (although I honestly admit that Hatfield’s vocals in his 53 years are still on top, and far from many of the world of Metal can boast such an achievement). Another significant drawback is addressed to Monsieur Hammet. The solo is boring and monotonous so that I'm not sure if the album will change if they are all just removed?

The material is extremely peppy and diverse. The hurricane "Hardwird", which has a non-honeying "Kill 'EM All, Moth Into Flame, which reminded me of" Ride the Lightning "by something from afar; The viscous "Dream No More", listening to which I imagine myself on a career dump truck. Nevertheless, unlike Magnetics and ST. Anger, even the length of 6 or more minutes does not make them boring. And in general, the handwriting of the group, my own melody, and, moreover, I did not notice the self -reproach, which is also just wonderful.

Let's summarize: we have an excellent drive album with boring solo, excellent sound, wonderful material and excellent energy. For once, all the hype around the album was really justified by the quality of both sound and material, and as an ordinary listener it is very pleasant that in my player there will be one good album more, and for a group that is still not She lost her talent and released a standing plate by a bunch of time. And I will go to hear "Atlas, Rise" to the holes!
