— Давай повеселимся! — сказал Медвежонок. — Давай будем веселиться и петь!
- Let's have fun! - said the teddy bear. - Let's have fun and sing!


— А что? — спросил Ежик.
- And what? The hedgehog asked.


— Что хочешь. Ты пой, а я буду играть.
- What you want. You sing, and I will play.


И Медвежонок достал из чулана балалайку, сдул пыль и сел, важный, у печки, закинув лапу на лапу.
And the little bear took out a balalaika from the closet, blew off the dust and sat, important, at the stove, throwing his paw on his paw.


— Струны, — сказал Ежик. — Струн нет.
“Strings,” said the hedgehog. - No strings.


— Подумаешь! Со струнами кто хочешь сыграет, а ты попробуй без струн.

— А как же я буду петь, если ты — ла-ла-ла?

— А я могу беззвучно, — сказал Медвежонок. — Я буду играть беззвучно, как оркестр, а ты пой.

— Попробуй, попросил Ежик.

И Медвежонок заиграл беззвучно.

— Хорошо, — сказал Ежик и беззвучно запел.

— Ты что делаешь? — спросил Медвежонок, когда Ежик спел первый куплет.

— А почему не слышно?

— А я беззвучно пою, — сказал Ежик. — Ты беззвучно играешь, я беззвучно пою, а вместе мы — веселимся!

— Здорово! — крикнул Медвежонок. — Так еще никто не веселился! И неслышно заиграл, а Ежик стал петь еще беззвучнее.

И тут пришел Заяц.
And then a hare came.


Он сперва постучал, но ему никто не ответил.
At first he knocked, but no one answered him.


Потом Заяц всунул уши в щелочку, но ничего не услышал.
Then the hare stuck his ears in the slit, but did not hear anything.


Потом — открыл дверь, и увидел беззвучно поющего Ежика и беззвучно играющего Медвежонка.
Then he opened the door, and saw a soundless hedgehog and soundly playing a bear.


Глаза у Зайца стали большие и круглые. С большими и круглыми глазами Заяц простоял в дверях целую минуту, а потом крикнул: эй!

Ему никто не ответил: Ежик пел, Медвежонок играл.
Nobody answered him: the hedgehog sang, the teddy bear played.


— Эй! — закричал Заяц. — Это я! Я пришел к вам в гости! Вы же меня звали!
- Hey! The hare shouted. - It's me! I came to visit you! You called me!


Ежик допевал третью песню, от Медвежонка валил пар.
The hedgehog sought the third song, steam fell from the teddy bear.


— И-и-и-и!.. — будто его прищемили, заверещал Заяц. — Что вы делаете?
“I-and-and-and! ..”-as if he had become inflated, the hare screamed. - What are you doing?


— Веселимся, — тихо сказал Медвежонок, беззвучно играя на балалайке.
“We have fun,” said the teddy bear quietly, playing silently on the balalaika.


— Пой с нами, — сказал Ежик и приступил к балладе.
“Sing with us,” said the hedgehog and proceeded to the ballad.


— А что вы поете? — спросил Заяц.
- What are you singing? The hare asked.


— Шотландскую балладу, — сказал Ежик. — Не сбивай.
“Scottish ballad,” said the hedgehog. - Do not knock down.


— Я могу на барабане, — сказал Заяц. — Я мигом.
“I can on the drum,” said the hare. - I'm in an instant.


И тут же вернулся с барабаном.
And then he returned with the drum.


— Палочек нет, — извиняясь, сказал Заяц. — Но я могу лапами.
“There is no stick,” said the hare, apologizing. “But I can paws.”


— Только неслышно, — сказал Медвежонок, играя.
“Only inaudibly,” said the teddy bear, playing.


— Ты хоть про что поешь? — шепотом спросил Заяц у Ежика, неслышно стуча в барабан.

— Про Шотландию, — одними губами сказал Ежик. — Это такая страна.

— В Шотландии — балалаек нет, — шепотом сказал Заяц.

— И барабанов — тоже, — негромко заметил Медвежонок.

— А вот барабаны — есть, — вслух сказал Заяц. — Барабаны есть всюду!
“But there are drums - there is,” the hare said aloud. - There are drums everywhere!


— Там бубны, — сказал Медвежонок. — Как у цыган.
“There are tambourines,” said the teddy bear. - Like the gypsies.


— Вы меня сбиваете, — сказал Ежик. И неслышно запел про Шотландию, горную страну, в которой нет балалаек, есть бубны, как у цыган, но по краям все же стоят несколько барабанов.
“You are knocking me down,” said the hedgehog. And he was inaudible about Scotland, a mountainous country in which there are no balalaikas, there are tambourines, like the gypsies, but several drums are still standing around the edges.


И Медвежонок с Зайцем, глядя на Ежика, ничего не слышали, но почти все понимали, и были очень благодарны Ежику за то, что он унес их в песне в эту чудесную страну.
And a bear cub with a hare, looking at the hedgehog, did not hear anything, but almost everyone understood, and were very grateful to the hedgehog for taking them to this wonderful country in the song.


— И все-таки барабаны там есть, — прощаясь и благодаря за вечер, сказал Заяц. — Несколько штучек, а есть.

— И балалайка, — сказал Медвежонок. — Одна и без струн.
