Юный Принц, добрый, милый и смелый
The Young Prince, kind, sweet and brave
Был правителем той страны.
He was the ruler of that country.
Управлял государством умело,
He managed the state skillfully,
И ему были все верны.

И, казалось, что все ненастья

А тем временем из Королевства

Серебристо мерцающих звёзд

Прилетела Звезда-Принцесса -
The Star Princess has arrived -
Сладкий сон и мечта всех грёз.

И, конечно, наш Принц влюбился.

Завертелся и заискрился,

Сердце Принца заполнил собой.

Ни о ком думать больше не мог он,

Только б видеть её глаза

И волос дивных вьющийся локон,

Грациозно спадавших назад.

Только грянул вдруг гром ненастья

И разрушил прежний покой...

Зло престрашное дело свершило,
Evil has accomplished a terrible deed,
Торжествующе и смеясь,
Triumphantly and laughing,
Вмиг в чудовище превратило
Instantly turned into a monster
Принца доброго, не стыдясь...
Good prince, without shame...


Так испуганно гладь морская
So scared of the sea surface
Безобразие лика его
The ugliness of his face
Отражала, безмолвно вздыхая,
Reflected, silently sighing,
Опускаясь скорбью на дно...
Sinking to the bottom with sorrow...


Увидав же своё отраженье,
Seeing your reflection,
Пораженный до боли, упал;
Painfully struck, he fell;
Добрый Принц, словно павший в сраженьи,
The good Prince, as if fallen in battle,
На песке одиноко лежал...
Lying alone on the sand...


Страшен лик его и безобразен,
His face is terrible and ugly,
От былой красоты - ни следа.
There is no trace of its former beauty.
Лишь душою и сердцем прекрасен
Only beautiful in soul and heart
Остаётся он навсегда.
He remains forever.


Тяжела ты, печаль-кручина.
You are heavy, sadness.
Свет исчез, опустилася тьма.
The light disappeared and darkness fell.
Взволновалась морская пучина
The depths of the sea are agitated
И на Принца волной натекла.
And a wave flowed over the Prince.


Он, поднявшись, побрёл, шатаясь,
He got up and walked staggeringly,
Избегая сторонний взгляд.
Avoiding prying eyes.
Шёл он медленно, спотыкаясь,
He walked slowly, stumbling,
Шёл куда-нибудь, наугад.
He was walking somewhere, at random.


И пещеру в глуши нашёл он,
And he found a cave in the wilderness,
Утомлённый он в ней уснул.
Tired, he fell asleep in it.
И тоской выразительно полной
And expressively full of melancholy
Ветер выл и неистово дул...
The wind howled and blew furiously...


А Принцесса, не зная горя,
And the Princess, not knowing grief,
Удивлялась, что Принц пропал.
I was surprised that the Prince was missing.
И нигде не найдя героя,
And not finding a hero anywhere,
Улетела на свой звёздный бал...
She flew away to her star ball...


Принц-чудовище так в пещере
The monster prince is so in the cave
Одиноко и грустно живёт.
He lives lonely and sad.
Но к нему прибегают все звери,
But all the animals come running to him,
Доброту ведь он им раздаёт.
He gives them kindness.


И не может он жить иначе,
And he cannot live otherwise,
Никого не виня, не кляня,
Without blaming anyone, without cursing,
Своё горе от всех он прячет,
He hides his grief from everyone,
Но любовь бескорыстно дая...
But giving love unselfishly...


Что за образом страшным этим
What kind of terrible image is this?
Скрытым стало волею злой,
It became hidden by the will of evil,
Знает солнце, и знает ветер,
The sun knows and the wind knows
Знает с ними морской прибой.
The sea surf knows them.


А ещё знают те созданья,
And those creatures also know
Что в пещеру к нему пришли,
That they came to him in the cave,
И забыв о своих страданьях,
And forgetting about my sufferings,
Утешение там нашли...
They found consolation there...


Зло ликует и торжествует.
Evil rejoices and triumphs.
Но не в силах оно понять,
But it is unable to understand
Что любовь так умеет, так любит,
That love can do this, loves so much,
Что готова себя распять.
That she’s ready to crucify herself.


И не ждёт от судьбы воздаянья,
And does not expect reward from fate,
Бескорыстно себя раздаёт.
He gives himself away selflessly.
Ей не нужны почёт и признанье,
She doesn't need honor and recognition
Для других потому что живёт.
For others because he lives.


Сердце доброе, скрытое маской

Безобразного вида лицом:

Получается грустная сказка
