The War of the Worlds is a radio supply of the novel of the same name on the air of the CBS station on October 30, 1938. The radio listeners adopted the performance staged by Mercury Theater on the Air under the leadership of Orson Wells, for a real news report: more than a million inhabitants of the north-east of the United States believed in the Martian attack and hit panic.

On the eve of the 1938 Halloween, Mercury Theatre on the Air decided to put the Roman Herbert Wells in their watch radio program “The War of the Worlds”, having adopted his action in New Jersey of 1939. At the beginning of the hour, one of the artists announced the beginning of the radio show, after which the weather forecast sounded, and then the concert of Ramon Rakello and his orchestra began (in fact, the orchestra led by Bernard Herrmann). Soon the music was interrupted by an urgent message that strange outbreaks were observed on Mars. Then, the allegedly famous professor-astronomer Princeton Richard Pirson (voiced by Orson Wells) refuted the possibility of life on Mars. The concert continued, but was soon again interrupted by a special news release. CBS reporter Karl Philips (Frank Ridik) from the scene transmitted about the landing of a metal cylinder in the town of Grover Mill of Merser County. Soon, the cylinder was transformed into a car, with thermal rays, incinerating everything around. Philips shouted something and tried to extinguish the mobile studio, the connection was interrupted. Professor Pirson began to talk about the technical level of Martian, then the head of the National Guard New Jersey declared a state of emergency and led his units into battle.

The weapons of earthlings were unable to resist the aliens, the new deadly machines continued to land and destroy people and infrastructure, crowds of people fled away from the invaders. The unnamed Minister of the Interior (Kenny Delmar) turned to the nation (the radio station forbade the image of President Franklin Roosevelt, but Delmar still portrayed Roosevelt's voice). Soon, a reporter at the artillery part who fired at Martians came in touch. They were also attacked by bombers who were destroyed by the rays of death, although they were able to dump one of the alien apparatuses. Martians used poisoning gases, and the connection was again interrupted. The CBS employee (Ray Collins) got out to the roof of CBS Building, from where he saw several Martian cars crossing Hudson. He also felt a poisonous smell, after which the broadcast was interrupted. A radio amateur made his way through the interference, trying to contact at least someone. Only at this moment (about 40 minutes after the start of the production), the announcer reminded of the fiction of the described events. Then Professor Pieron described the completion of the attacks of aliens, who were destroyed by the lack of immunity to earthly bacteria. At the end of the hour, Wells left the image and congratulated the audience with Halloween.
