Исаак Сирин описывает путь христианина к Богу, путь освобождения: покаяние (обращение от рабства греху к Богу), очищение (стяжание свободы), совершенство (полнота любви и восторга). Суть подвига (пути монаха) – молитва – устремление души к Богу, а в идеале – Богообщение. Покаяние не есть уход от творения Божьего, а поворот ума, выход из "мира сего" как совокупности страстей, системы порабощения, "законов". Поэтому путь подвижника есть путь свободы, Бог действует в человеке "в таинстве свободы". И жизнь будущего века Исаак Сирин называет "отечеством свободы". В начале молитва – от недостатка, в конце – полнота радости. Молитва зажигает любовь, и в совершенном монахе любовь безмерна. Мало кто так сильно запечатлел евангельскую любовь и сострадание как Исаак Сирин: он молился за животных, за самого дьявола. И ад, по Исааку Сирину, - любовь Божья, которые грешники воспринимают как боль и страдание, именно потому, что они грешники – грех в неприятии любви, в ненависти к любви. В наше собрание творений преподобного Исаака Сирина вошли классический сборник его слов, известный в России как "Слова подвижнические" и новооткрытые тексты великого святого в переводе Илариона (Алфеева) и С. Аверинцева.
