One of the very first and most legendary California punk bands Social Distortion has been counting their story since 1978, when friends-schoolboy guitarist Mike Ness (3.04.62), Casey Rover drummer, and Agnew brothers named Rick (vocals, guitar) and Frank (BAS) gathered for the first joint rehearsal. The material made in the classic dirty and bumpy style was recorded as part of: Mike Ness-guitar and vocals, Dennis Dannell-bass gitar, Carrot-drums. Only six months have passed, and when the forty-fifth ‘Under My Thumb 'was recorded (with a carpet of the song Rolling Stones, as it is easy to guess). Social Distortion was already a quartet - with a bassist Brent Liles (Dennis switched to a guitar) and Derek O'Brien drummer. “In those days, wearing a short haircut was already a reason for a fight,” recalls Ness, “you would never believe it, but people were actually afraid that someone would play punk rock!”

The group confidently scored glasses, and the punk-rock fans were already impatiently awaited by the Longples, with which the Social Distortion was born in 1982. 'Mommy's Little Monster' is unconditionally classic of his time. The group demonstrated its new unique sound (many years later adopted by such groups as Offspring), based on rock and roll, rhythm end-Blue with Clash intonations and California energy. Surprisingly, the clip ‘Another state of Mind 'unexpectedly began to spin abundantly on the air of MTV, which was simply unique for the American punk rock of those years.

Despite the fact that they began to talk about the group and write around the entire perimeter of the United States (as well as inside it), difficult times have come. A hard life, flowing in traditional punk atrocities and earnings with three crusts of bread, led to the fact that the second giant came out only six years later when Ness had already managed to settle down and improve his existence. All this time, the NESS fought with its drug addictions, and the Social Distortion practically did not exist O'Brien went to look for happiness in the DL group, and the Liles joined the Agent Orange. 'Prison Bound' was nothing more than a real revival of Social Distortion, which few believed in. In the group, the influence of American folk music has become more and more, we are talking about country - Social Distortion also organically entered folklore harmony into their sound, as the Clash adapted reggae. New people began to play in the team-the drummer Christopher Rece (ex-led) and the John Maurer bassist.

The group received such a strong support not only of punk rockers, but also of musical critics that they were able to sign a contract with the Major company EPIC-the first California underground punk act, which honored such a dubious honor. But the 1990 melancholy disc was not the best in the Social Distortion discography-with the exception of the tracks 'Sick Boy', 'Story of My Life' and the incendiary carpet 'Ring of Fire', the plate does not stand out from the mass of punk releases that poured into the California Studies in the early 90s.

But ‘Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell 'completely rehabilitated the group - although the songs did not become faster, rather the opposite, but the Social Distortion melody has acquired an unprecedented depth and sophistication. The album may claim the right to call the "best average punk album of all time."

In 1995, the Mainliner CD, where, in addition to the mini-album of the same name, the other early Social Distortion material was included-only ten not very protracted tracks.
