Смеялись на небе могучие боги,

кровавой тешась игрой.

Мы все полегли, не дождавшись подмоги,
We all died without waiting for help,
но каждый пал как герой!

Давно не держали мы трусов в отряде –

на том зелёном лугу

из нас не один не молил о пощаде,

Другие утешили вдов белогрудых,

сложили в мешки казну.

а мы за воротами сном беспробудным

которую спим весну!..

Погибель отцов – не в науку мальчишкам:
The death of fathers is not a science for boys:
любой с пеленок боец!

Бросаются в пламя, не зная, что слишком
They throw themselves into the flames, not knowing that they are too
печален будет конец.
