In the late 70s. In the bowels of the Student Club of the Latvian State Conservatory named after Y. Viles, composer Janis Lussers and producer Alexander Griva, under the influence of the music of the foreign group "Space", create a rock band "Zodiac", which almost completely concentrated on studio work. The art of the musicians of the Zodiac group aroused great interest to listeners. The reasons for this, apparently, are in the uniqueness of musical solutions, the originality of the compositions performed by the group. “Zodiac” is the studio ensemble: its creative ideas, the style are completely revealed only in the record, which is a long, complex and painstaking work of all participants, especially the sound engineer. "Zodiac" performs electronic rock music using polyphonic synthesizers and various special recording effects. Wide and diverse performing opportunities allow the ensemble to create compositions on a variety of topics. One of them is the theme of space. "Zodiac" turned to her repeatedly. And with particular interest - after visiting the star town, where the musicians successfully performed and personally communicated with astronauts, specialists working in this area. Meetings in the star town, stories about flights to space Dali came to the ensemble a new creative incentive. And already the names of the compositions of Janis Lussenes, indicate the nature of the music performed by the Rock Group "Zodiac". In 1982, the ensemble successfully performed in Moscow in the pop program "Youth of the Baltic", which was held as part of the final concert of the Moscow Stars festival dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the formation of the USSR and the 19th Congress of the Komsomol. The work on the film "Star Palette" (the Central Studio of Scientific and Popular Films) has also been completed, where "Zodiac" as if "comments" by the "Zodiac", the paintings of twice Hero of the Soviet Union Aleksey Leonov pilot.
